Barbarossa Athens sits on Alkionidon in Voula, inside 91 Athens Riviera, and it is the Athens outpost of the Barbarossa group — Paros first, then Bodrum, Cairo and here. The cooking is Aegean with an Asian inflection, built on Paros produce.
What the site says it is
This is the part worth quoting rather than paraphrasing. The restaurant’s own description says it "isn't just a place to go out; it's a destination for those who want to experience the vibrant nightlife of Athens", and that "the parties here are unforgettable". There is a separate section for weddings.
A kitchen-first restaurant does not describe itself that way. It talks about the produce, the menu and the room. This one leads with the evening, and it is being honest about what it is selling.
A restaurant that opens its own description with the word nightlife has answered the question. The mistake is booking it for a different one.
So does it belong on the list
Yes, but on the correct list. The distinction this site keeps making is between a room with a kitchen and a room with an atmosphere, and the second is a fair trade on the right evening. Booked for a celebration, a long table, a summer night with music, this is a serious option and there are not many on this coast.
Booked as an evening built around the food, it is the wrong choice, and the rooms that are right are a short list: Pelagos and Patio hold the coast’s two Michelin stars, and Papaioannou at Kavouri is where the fish is.
The chef question
The group names Thanasis Kakaras as executive chef, and names him as executive chef of Barbarossa Paros. Whether he runs this pass, oversees it, or neither, is not stated in the material we could find.
That is a normal arrangement in a multi-site group and not a criticism. It is, though, the single question to put when booking, because in this category the answer varies enormously between outposts of the same name.
