The Glyfada golf course — formally the Konstantinos Karamanlis course — is eighteen holes at par 72, with practice grounds and an academy, inside the Municipality of Glyfada. It is the only course on the Athens Riviera.
Two things, one address
The course belongs to the municipality and is run through its golf enterprise. The Glyfada Golf Club of Athens is something else: a private association signed into existence on 20 April 1966 by 198 members of Athenian society, most of whom had been playing at Varybobi or abroad, and now the oldest and largest golf club in Athens with more than 450 members.
The club runs the competitions, the social calendar and the academies. The course runs the tee sheet. Confusing the two is the most common mistake made about this place, including by people who write about it.
Why that matters to a new arrival
Almost everything at this level on this coast is gated. Tatoi Club closed its register in 2017 and asks for two proposers of a year's standing. Here the two questions come apart: you can play the course on a green fee, and you can decide separately, later, whether the club is a room you want to be in.
That sequencing — use the thing first, join it second — is the correct order for almost everything on this coast, and it is the whole argument of the piece on why access is not membership.
It is also a reason to look again at Glyfada as an address. Of the four candidates, only one has a championship course inside its own boundary.
It plays host, and it litigates
The course has hosted the European Senior Tour, and in May 2026 the Posidonia tournament brought more than a hundred international players to it.
It has also been on the receiving end of a claim from Elliniko S.A., the developer of The Ellinikon, over borehole water consumption — a dispute the council described publicly as an attempt to bankrupt its golf enterprise. The two largest things on this coastline are not natural allies, and the course sits between them.
