Kengo Kuma and Associates designed the Riviera Galleria on the Ellinikon waterfront: a segmented galleria under "The Ripple", an undulating translucent roof in fabric and wood that the practice relates to reed screens and Aegean sails. BETAPLAN is executive architect. Construction started in July 2024.
The part of the scheme that becomes a place
Most of what is announced at The Ellinikon is housing you buy or offices you do not enter. A retail and dining frontage is the piece that functions as somewhere to go — the same thing the marina promenade at Vouliagmeni already does, at far greater scale.
That makes it worth watching closely, and the Elliniko file tracks delivered against announced.
And the ageing question
A practice known for timber and layering is making a claim about time. Attic sun, salt and thirty-degree autumns test that claim hard, and the answer is a maintenance budget rather than a render.
